I would like to share a great experience. I had the chance to interview Richard, the founder of Tallsingles.co.uk which a dating site for tall men and tall women only.
I have to say it's a very good idea as being tall can be a problem when dating (unless you don't mind your partner's height of course!).
<<< 1. How long has your dating site been running? >>>
T S: The dating site has been running for just over 2 years. We have just over 1.5 million members in the UK. It has been great to see the site grow so rapidly as it shows there is a real need for this service. We have received many success stories from people who have met on the site which is absolutely fantastic. I was even invited to one of the weddings!
<<< 2. Where are you based in the UK? >>>
T S: Well our members are located all across the UK, our head office is located in Ingatestone which is in Essex just outside the M25.
<<< 3. Why are you specialised in tall singles (to complete the description on your FAQ if needed)? How did this idea come up? >>>
T S: Well I am tall myself at 6’7’’. However, sometimes I do think perhaps that is not all that tall as we have members who are much taller than me on the site. But I think of a UK man being “tall” if he is 6’0’’ or over, however, I have come to learn that even that can be a topic for debate!
Anyway, being tall myself, I struggled to find women who were tall enough for me to even consider dating. I would often walk into bars or clubs, only to find there were no women there who were tall enough to even approach for a conversation. Anyway, one evening I thought about starting a tall dating site and from there I then purchased the domain site tallsingles.co.uk and that’s really how it started.
I am trying to build a site which serves the tall community as well, so we are not only a dating site. We also try and think about what the tall community wants such as a link to a great tall blog like yours.
What makes us different from all the other “tall” dating sites out there is that we actually restrict our membership by height, so men have to be 6’0’’ and over, women 5’5’’ and over.
<<< 4. Why do you target the UK and the USA? Which one would you say works the most in terms of number of members and results? >>>
T S: Well the UK site (tallsingles.co.uk) came first and has done really well. Based on that success we thought it would be a good idea to branch out into the US, where there are a great deal of tall people, so we started tall.singles. The US site has only been running for 5 months so it’s too difficult to say which is going to do better.
<<< 6. Do you think being tall is a pro or a con? Or both? >>>
T S: Great question! It’s really difficult to answer. Well firstly I think there are some plus points to being tall, for example; there is nothing better than a hug from a tall person, we get a better view at concerts and there is a theory which says we should be richer. That said, I think I can think of quite a few cons; clothing, transportation, health, dating, legroom, not seeing your face in the mirror, being asked if you play basketball. Given that I can think of more cons than pro’s I think I am going to have to conclude “con”.
<<< 7. Do you have business partners? >>>
T S: No I don’t have any business partners at the moment. It is something I am going to look into in the future.
So if you are tall and single, go and have a look!
